Oil changes are one of the most important tasks you can do to maintain the performance of your Porsche and prolong the life of your engine. Whether you do-it-yourself or take to it your favorite mechanic, you should have it done regularly. Because motor oil technology and quality has improved, the every 3k miles rule no longer applies. And factory Porsche intervals will tell you to go longer, like between 12k -20k miles. From an engine performance perspective, we recommend to our clients to have oil changes done every 7-10k miles or once a year for your street car and sooner if you are tracking the car.
If you’re DYI’ing your oil change, we have a top three motor oils that we recommend you using. We typically keep these in stock and use for the oil changes we perform at the shop for all of our customers, Porsche or otherwise.
Schaeffer’s Oil is our favorite oil and our #1 go-to for motor oil for both the street cars and track cars we service. We use the Advanced European Performance on our street cars because it keeps engines clean from harmful deposits that can impact engine performance. It provides strong protection against metal-to-metal contact that reduces friction to keep bearings, rings, pistons, cylinders and valves like new longer.
We also use the Supreme 9000 Full Synthetic on our track cars because it creates a shield to prevent metal-to-metal contact. As the conditions intensify, it resists thinning and protects critical engine parts from heat and wear to increase engine efficiency and extend engine life.
In addition to its performance, we love Schaeffer’s because it’s a family-owned, American company and we love to support that! Since 1839, this company has been managed by the same family and is in its 6th generation. We’re a proud supporter of this American company and you can order Schaffer's oil directly from us.
Motul motor oil is a popular brand for road racing but we use it in our street cars as well. Motul oil technology has an improved durability and temperature behavior that gives clients a smoother ride as well as a longer oil life.
Motul is not cheaper option and you can’t find around the corner. But considering the longer oil life, it can be worth the trouble to find a Motul distributor and stock your garage. And you guessed it, we’re a dealer. Check out our list of Motul products.
What makes Liqui Moly so special is that it has a matching motor oil for every vehicle in the world. Based in Germany, it’s perfectly tailored to German car makes and models no matter the year, engine or use. Liqui Moly is designed to exceed manufacturer requirements for motor oil to ensure a higher cleaner performance that keeps your engine running longer.
Priced similarly to the Motul, Liqui Moly is a little more expensive and harder to get your hands on. We do offer it on our website so check out our list of Liqui Moly products.
Other Motor Oils To Note
While not the oil we use here at the shop, Red Line is an oil that many of our customers use and we keep stocked for them. Red Line technology boasts improved wear protection and friction reduction which customers say makes for a quieter (and cleaner) ride.
Priced similarly to Motul, it’s a pricer motor oil and also not as easy to find. But it is a motor oil we sell on our website and we’re offering a 15% discount if you’re interested in trying it.

Mobil One is the most cost effective of the motor oils on this list, as well as the easiest to get. And it should be noted that Mobil One and Porsche have had a long standing corporate partnership that extends into motorsports, so Mobil One does come as the recommended service fill from Porsche.
But all that aside, it is a quality product for the money. Mobil One is designed to provide exceptional performance and protection in extreme conditions, making it ideal for Porsche automobiles.
